What Parents, Guardians and Players Need to Know About k-ID and Gorilla Tag

October 7, 2024

Another Axiom is partnering with k-ID to enhance player safety in Gorilla Tag. Here’s what you need to know ahead of the roll-out.

What is k-ID?

k-ID is a free family portal designed to simplify how kids and teens access age-appropriate online experiences while also simplifying how parents or guardians manage those accounts. From their k-ID account, parents and guardians will be able to adjust their child’s Gorilla Tag experience through a selection of safety features, such as enabling or disabling access to voice chat, private groups, and username customization. Players can get a jump-start on setup ahead of the launch by making an account at https://family.k-id.com/.

While existing Gorilla Tag and Meta safety guidelines prioritize privacy and child safety, integrating k-ID support adds a layer of parental involvement for younger players, and helps push Gorilla Tag into the future of interactive family gaming.

Gameplay will remain unchanged for most users, but now, when parents and guardians verify their child’s age through the k-ID family portal, they will be given the opportunity to link their child’s Gorilla Tag account to their family dashboard. The decisions made in this dashboard will directly impact your monke’s experience while playing the game, so make sure to sit down and talk through all the new changes!

Gorilla Tag is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB, and age limits mirror the requirements of each headset.

How Does it Work?

1. Players: When you log into Gorilla Tag, you will be asked to select your age with a slider.

2. Once your age is set, you’ll be able to navigate over to the monke computer in your treehouse.

3. The monke computer will display “You’re playing on a managed account, some settings are disabled.” Press any key to view the full text, and then press “3” to view your one-time passcode for k-ID. Hold onto this code, it’s important!

4. Next, switch from your monke computer to your human one. Have your parent or guardian visit k-id.com/code.

5. Parents/Guardians: Enter the one-time passcode your child received in Gorilla Tag and provide an email address to set up your k-ID account, or log in with your existing account.

6. Once you’re logged in, you’ll be taken to the Request Approval page. If you do not already have an avatar representing your child, you can quickly add one by pressing the “+” sign and entering their first name or nickname. Then select “Review Request.”

7. Now, you’ll be able to see customizable in-game settings for your child’s Gorilla Tag account. Here’s where you’ll determine access to voice chat, private groups, or a customized username. Make your selections, and then hit “Approve."

8. You will then see a pop-up asking for you to verify your adult status. The information collected here is not retained and is only to verify that you are an adult according to the laws where you live. Once this is complete, you will see a confirmation screen that the approval has gone through.

9. Players: In Gorilla Tag, refresh your monke computer to update to the new k-ID settings and permissions by pressing “2” on your monke keyboard.
